ABOUT
I grew up around photography and remain in awe of my father's work. I feel he is a visual poet: he associates objects in the visual field to evoke meaning in much the same way poets combine and arrange words to give expression a new dimension. This photograph of the aging cowboys and cracked sidewalk is a great example.
I came to photography later in life as a means to appreciate the vast spaces of the San Luis Valley in Southern Colorado, where I live. What interests me most about the medium is the possibility it offers of capturing the subjective experience of being. A least a piece of it. In the grandeur of this landscape, you often are amazed. You look out. You pause. In that moment you feel part of something larger. Both the natural beauty and shapes and colors and your capacity to marvel at them come out in full force. I feel this experience is commonly accessible to all of us, and this is the language within the photographs through which I hope to communicate. I realized, this can happen anywhere - here, in a city, on a coast. Our own being provides this moment over and over. I hope these photographs will provide it as well.
